Everyone feels lonely from time to time. However, sensitive people feel lonely more often. The depth of loneliness for sensitive people can seem overwhelming. Also, people who are not sensitive do not seem to understand how painful feeling lonely can be; which leaves sensitive people feeling misunderstood. Once a sensitive person feels lonely and misunderstood a temporary depression can set in. Remaining too long in a depressive mindset can usher in clinical depression.
So what is one to do if they are sensitive, lonely, and misunderstood? To start out, having yourself is a gift. Honoring yourself as a gift through self care, engaging in activities you love, and avoiding unsupportive people and situations will help prevent temporary depression. Also, look for your tribe – others who are sensitive and/or supportive. Having supportive people in your life can balance out the effects of unsupportive people. Boundary setting with unsupportive people can also prevent feelings of depression. The key is to listen to your feelings, intuition, and thoughts and do what is right for you!
