I hereby declare the month of February as the season of loving yourself.  The ups and downs of Valentines Day has been on my mind lately.  Will the Valentine date be good enough?  Will the dinner plans work out?  Will the gift be satisfactory?  I mean really, that is a lot of pressure to put on one day!  It also seems to be counterproductive to celebrate love one day per year.  As the love of self translates to the ability to love others, why not spend one whole month focusing on self love?!

Now mind you, I am not talking about malignant self love where you only consider yourself or anti-social behavior where folly without concern for safety rules.  I am talking about being the birthday person all month long.  Treating yourself to healthy food, some exercise, outings you enjoy, wearing your favorite outfits, getting extra sleep, eating dark chocolate, and so on.  In short, doing the things that fill you up from the inside out.

Starting from today, challenge yourself to see your thoughts, actions, and beliefs from an I am worthy paradigm.  I am worthy of love, I am worthy to stand up for myself, I am worthy to feel good about myself, and so on.  I love Texas Pecan coffee brewed with a pod machine.  We had stopped using pod coffee a while back, but for this month, I pulled the pod brewer out again.  Boy oh boy, do I feel loved when I drink that single serve pod coffee.  The coffee is fresh, the cream I use in the coffee is rich – yum!

This month, I have also found the perfect nebulizer medicine combo so I can sleep at night!  Man oh man is it amazing to not wake up wheezing and coughing in the middle of the night.  A little added antacid tablet and I am on my way!

So what do you need to do for yourself so that you can feel like a million bucks in February?  Paint your toe nails?  Make a mach up of how you will redecorate your living room?  Go see your PCP about your nagging cough?  That’s right, it probably isn’t the diamond bracelet or shiny new sports car/motorcycle you need.  What you likely need is to listen to your body and give yourself the gift of health and comfort that does not cost one million dollars.  On the other hand, if a beach house has been calling your name and you have just been sitting on the extra cash to buy it, go for it!

So let’s see how this goes, for the month of February, practice listening to your body and giving yourself what you need.  If this experiment goes well, you can try it again next month and the next…..
