Journaling is a perfect way to handle your life without becoming overwhelmed.  Much like a can of soda that has been shaken, our lives cause inner pressure.  We can release the pressure by acting out or we can release the pressure through journaling.  The beautiful thing about journaling is there is no right or wrong phrase, word, belief, or action when journaling.  Journaling permits irrational thoughts.  Journaling also allows for one to discover and discuss fears and feelings.  The best thing about journaling is there is no one to criticize or judge you.

So what are you waiting for?  Be free of the “stuff” that is holding you back!  Here are 5 ways to journal more consistently.

  1. Keep your journal accessible.  Whether it be on a laptop or smart device or you keep a pen and paper handy, access to the means of journaling is a lifesaver.
  2. When your emotions are strong, sit down and journal.  Journaling will help you express what is going on in the moment and give you a safe place to express yourself.
  3. Journal when you have thoughts that nag.  Nagging thoughts are an invitation to work through difficult feelings and beliefs.
  4. Assign your journal the role of sounding board.  While talking to others about what’s bothering you is tempting, the best time to talk with others is when you are less emotional.  Let your journal be the place where you are 100% honest about what you think and feel.
  5. Give yourself permission to not journal when life is going smoothly.  I think a gratitude list is a great resource to utilize when life is going smoothly.  The goal is avoid making journaling feel like a chore.

All the best!
